| CAJE's music is a fusion of calypso,
salsa, samba and reggae in a smooth, sensuous but fiery expression -
call it Worldbeat Jazz. What moves the musician moves the people.
The eclectic CAJE is centred in keeping the art in the music alive.
It is Caribbean-spiced music, infused with a joyful spirit drawing
inspiration from the community of world cultures that is the
Caribbean. In the short time of their existence since 1996, CAJE has become a catalyst for Caribbean jazz by bringing their musical synerygy to American audiences. This Maryland-based eclectic ensemble of international musicians directed by Trinidad-born artist/musician/composer David Boothman has brought back that raw honesty often missing in today's popular music. Their music is sauteed in that Caribbea-spiced happy tincture that takes over - you can taste the music - a CAJE expression. As for the founder and musical director of CAJE, David Boothman's artistic ideals have contributed to the ensemble's special style. He is dedicated to keeping the music pure, intuitive, magical and joyful. According to David, "to be spirit-filled we can't be full of ourselves". CAJE's performance at Montpelier was spirit-filled - a dialogue between Spirit and music, music and musicians, musicians and audience - all became one. Whitmore John, jazz broadcaster |
