The Golden Years Intercessors of the Assumption Roman Catholic Parish in Long Circular, Maraval, celebrated their eleventh anniversary last Tuesday morning. Founded in the year 1991 by then parish priest Father Reggie Hezekiah, as a ministry to say intecessory prayers for the parish and other needs, the group made up mainly of golden ladies has been meeting on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month to faithfully carry out the prayer duty. However, they have also nicely combined a social section at the end of their prayer session. Birthdays are observed and delicious snacks are served. Although the anniversary date is April 9, the group waited on Father Reggie's return from vacation so that he could celebrate Holy Mass at the Haleland Park home of founding member, Vida Pocock. And what a celebration of song, sticking of a beautiful cake done by Memie Chin Fatt, not yet of golden age but a member from the first meeting, who has now become chief cook and bottle washer. And along with one or two other non-golden assistants help with transport, food and serving the seniors. There were gifts for those celebrating birthdays and flowers for visitors like Sheila Faustin, who is on vacation from Toronto, Canada, and myself. |
